What you should also not avoid are the fortifications of Maastricht, along the Maasboulevard near De Hoge Brug (for cyclists and pedestrians) you will find the oldest city wall in the Netherlands with the Helpoort attached to it, which is also the oldest existing city gate in the Netherlands ( you can see it in the photo in this frame). You can continue through the city park and admire many pieces of wall with gates. You can also find old watermills from the city park towards the center.
