The Grootdiep in Dokkum

Dokkum is a cozy fortified town in the north of the province of Friesland, the city has international fame because Saint Boniface died near Dokkum. An exhibition of Boniface can therefore also be admired in the Dokkum museum.

Dokkum is part of one of the Frisian Eleven Cities and has a function for the entire area. Despite the fact that the fortified city only has about 13.000 inhabitants, the city does have a real city feeling. The shape of the ramparts around the city center is still clearly visible.

Dokkum Town Hall

Dokkum is a very pleasant old fortified town, because it is an old fortified town, there is still a lot of cultural heritage to admire. Canals can be found throughout the city, this creates a cozy impression in the city. There are also ramparts and strongholds around the city, around which you can find water. If you want to shop, you can buy what you need in Dokkum, including all your food, clothing, electronics and other products. In short, if you want to alternate cultural heritage with shopping, Dokkum is recommended, but if you really want to shop well, it is better to move to Leeuwarden.

Museum Dokkum

You can do everything in Dokkum, although it is not very extensive, but you have a choice in what you want to do. For example, visiting a museum, theatre, film or a cruise through the city.

The City Walls in Dokkum

Around the city center you can take a nice walk on the city walls and the strongholds surrounded by water. You can also visit Bonefatius Park, Tolhuis Park or Lindenhof. You can really enjoy nature in the Lauwersmeer area, which is also on the UNESCO World Heritage List! Highly recommended, as well as the entire Wadden area.

The Diepswal in Dokkum
