The Old City Hall of Breda Breda is a very pleasant old city in Brabant, with about 180.000 inhabitants and many students, it is always bustling. A cozy old Oranjestad, because there was a good relationship with the house Nassau, or the oranges. Breda Castle had an important function, where the Royal Military Academy has been located since 1826. The historic city center has been created around this castle. The name Breda was first mentioned in the year 1125 and between 1450 and 1550 a special development arose for Breda, the city became a center for politics and culture. This was because the Oranje Nassau's settled in Breda, which gave the city allure and many beautification projects were started. You can still see this in Breda, for example the Royal Military Academy is located in the city. At the beginning of the Second World War, May 1940, Breda was evacuated and the Germans were able to make good use of the military buildings in Breda. On September 4, 1944, Radio Oranje announced that Breda had been liberated, but that was not true. Nevertheless, many Germans and supporters left Breda. Breda was liberated on October 29, 1944 by Polish soldiers under the command of General Maczek. | |||||||||||||

The Valkenberg, Breda For parks and forests you can also go to Breda, there are forests around the city and several parks in the city. From the central station towards the center and next to Breda Castle you will find a cozy and large park called Valkenberg, and just outside the Wilhelminasingel the wilhelmiona park.
