 Almelo is located in the east of Overijssel in the region of Twente. The city, which received city rights in 1420, is located on the Almelose Aa brook. Almelo was founded in the 11th century, at a crossroads of land and waterways and became a real textile city. Part of the name Almelo also comes from the name of the stream, "lo" is a forest on the sandy plain, so the "Aa" and the "lo" together make the name Almelo.
