Coevorden is a fortified city in the province of Drenthe, the city is the oldest city in Drenthe and therefore has a rich history. The star-shaped outer canal and the roads in the city center clearly show that Coevorden is a fortified city. The city is also called goose town, because of the goose market which is held every year on the second Monday of November.

Coevorden has a rich historical background and therefore you can still find plenty of historic buildings and at least enjoy the atmosphere. In the past, Drenthe was very swampy and difficult to reach. Coevorden was located on one of the inaccessible roads in the area, on a sand hill, between the swamps. This made Coevorden an important city, the Utrecht bishop, Karel van Gelre and Prince Maurits also interfered with Coevorden. The city also belonged to the defense line along the Dutch-German border.

To the south towards Ommen there is plenty of nature and you can enjoy the beautiful nature for a very long time.
