Coevorden Castle Coevorden is a fortified city in the province of Drenthe, the city is the oldest city in Drenthe and therefore has a rich history. The star-shaped outer canal and the roads in the city center clearly show that Coevorden is a fortified city. When you discover the city, you notice that the city is committed to water, history and conviviality. This makes Coevorden very suitable for a tourist visit. The city is also called goose town, because of the goose market which is held every year on the second Monday of November. | |||||||||||||

The Old Post Office of Coevorden Coevorden has a rich historical background and therefore you can still find plenty of historic buildings and at least enjoy the atmosphere. In the past, Drenthe was very swampy and difficult to reach. Coevorden was located on one of the inaccessible roads in the area, on a sand hill, between the swamps. This made Coevorden an important city, the Utrecht bishop, Karel van Gelre and Prince Maurits also interfered with Coevorden. In Coevorden you can shop all kinds of things, clothing, shoes, accessories and all kinds of other necessities. The former Arsenal of the city, and now it is a museum among others.
