Amersfoort is an incredibly pleasant city, when you walk through the city you immediately notice that you are taking a walk through a lot of history. The city is very historic with a large historic center complete with walls and gates. The city is centrally located in the Netherlands with the Onze Lieve Vrouwetoren exactly in the middle of our country. The city is large and actually has everything to offer to be a top city trip for everyone.

Do you like cultural heritage? Then Amersfoort is the right place for you, the city is full of monuments. Amersfoort has no fewer than 400 national monuments. Parts of the Amersfoort fortress can also be found, because there is still an old city wall, a number of beautiful gates such as De Koppelpoort, the Kamperbinnenpoort and the Monnikendam water gate.

You can also take a look at Onze Lieve Vrouwentoren, this tower is located on a pleasant square, exactly in the middle of the Netherlands and has a height of 98,33M and is therefore at number 3 of our Dutch highest church towers list. There are many places of interest in Amersfoort, including war memorials. Also look outside the center, you will find many beautiful buildings there.
Amersfoort is also a very old city, the city dates back to the year 1028, when farmers already lived there. The city received city rights in the year 1259.

Take a look at the St.Pietergasthuis, the Sint-Joriskerk, or the Roman Catholic Sint-Franciscus-Xavierkerk and the Elleboogkerk is a nice building to visit. You can also add a piece of the old city wall with Plomtoren to the oldest piece of city wall.

In Amersfoort you can also enjoy culture, including various museums; For example, in the historic city center you have a museum called Felhite, in this museum you learn everything about the history of Amersfoort, then we also have the Mondriaanhuis, this is the house where Piet Mondriaan was born. Nature & Parks in Amersfoort

Amersfoort is a green city, this is partly due to the nature reserve Klein Zwitserland, which is attached to Amersfoort. You can enjoy walking in this area. Amersfoort is very suitable for nature lovers. The city also has many parks, including; “Nimmedor Park, Bokkeduinen, Randenbroek Park, Van Stolberg Park, the Water Extraction Area and finally the large Schothorst Park. The city won a prize in 2010 as the greenest city in the Netherlands.

You can also visit a beautiful zoo in Amersfoort, where you can visit a dino forest, among other things, you walk 750 meters through a path with replicas of dinosaurs. The tallest dinosaur is 14 meters high.

You can also walk in Amersfoort. There are many bars and restaurants, but for a more vibrant nightlife it is better to move a little further to Utrecht.
