Friesland is very characterized by a lot of water. Many lakes and nature reserves make it an attractive province. 

Friesland lies on the Wadden Sea and most of the Wadden Islands also belong to this province. The islands of Vlieland, Terschelling, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog are part of the province of Friesland.

DOCKUM

Dokkum is a cozy fortified town in the north of the province of Friesland, the city has international fame because Saint Boniface died near Dokkum. An exhibition of Boniface can therefore also be admired in the Dokkum museum.

Dokkum is part of one of the Frisian Eleven Cities and has a function for the entire area. Despite the fact that the fortified city only has about 13.000 inhabitants, the city does have a real city feeling. The shape of the ramparts around the city center is still clearly visible.

FRANEKER

Franeker is a pleasant city in the west of the province of Friesland, it is an important city within the eleven Frisian cities. With approximately 13.000 inhabitants, Franeker also has an important function for places in the area. Franeker has a pleasant city center, partly because many canals run through the city center and the city center is equipped with nice shops.

HARLINGS

Harlingen is one of the Frisian eleven cities. Harlingen is, among other things, a pleasant harbor town and is located in the west of the province of Friesland. The city is worth a visit. The city has a friendly atmosphere with friendly people. Harlingen is also the most important port of Friesland.

LORDVEEN

Heerenveen is a cozy place that originated in 1551 at a crossing of two canals. The canals were dug for peat extraction as there was a lot of trouble from high water in the area. The ground was not very stable due to the high water level.

Heerenveen is compact, cozy and fun to visit. You can still reasonably shop along the canals for a place like Heerenveen

LEEUWARDEN

Leeuwarden is the capital of the province of Friesland and is part of the 11 cities that Friesland has, the city has approximately 95.000 inhabitants. It is an atmospheric city with a lot of cultural heritage, canals and shops. Leeuwarden also has many students, which is partly why it is a vibrant city, so the city has a lot to offer.

LEMMER

Lemmer is a cozy and touristic place in the south of the province of Friesland. Due to its location, the place is the welcome picture of Friesland, both from the IJsselmeer and from the mainland through the A6, the province is easily accessible via Lemmer.

Lemmer is a busy tourist resort in the summer. The village has a central function for southern Friesland and the northern part of the province of Flevoland. Partly due to tourism, there are many terraces in Lemmer, especially along the canal 't Dok and the inner harbour.

SNEEK

Sneek, is a very pleasant city in the province of Friesland, in Frisian the city is called Snits. When you walk in the city you will soon notice that there is a very cozy and atmosphere in the city. Sneek is therefore known for its beautiful historic city center. If this appeals to you, you should definitely discover Sneek.

You don't have to be bored in Sneek either, you can shop extensively, visit museums, catch a movie and much more! But you will read that later in this report.
