Interesting history of Breda

The name Breda was first mentioned in the year 1125 and between 1450 and 1550 a special development arose for Breda, the city became a center for politics and culture. This was because the Oranje Nassau's settled in Breda, which gave the city allure and many beautification projects were started. You can still see this in Breda, for example the Royal Military Academy is located in the city.

At the beginning of the Second World War, May 1940, Breda was evacuated and the Germans were able to make good use of the military buildings in Breda. On September 4, 1944, Radio Oranje announced that Breda had been liberated, but that was not true. Nevertheless, many Germans and supporters left Breda. Breda was liberated on October 29, 1944 by Polish soldiers under the command of General Maczek.
